UGANDA LIFE

 When an act of God happens, all bets are off; so instead of getting to Uganda yesterday afternoon, I stayed overnight in a hotel and the wonderful travel agent fixed all my missed connecting flights. I got to fly on Emirates which is very posh and you get fed very well. Here’s a couple of quick snapshots from the lounge area at the Safari Inn. Walked up the road with another educator, we had a great chat about —guess what— midwifery.  Tomorrow I meet the rest of the Uganda team and our country team as well.

 Final phone calls and texts, now will rely on WhatsApp starting tomorrow until a new Uganda phone is obtained. Great start - orientation this week and a week in Kampala on July 17th— my daughter Sarah’s birthday. Packing was interesting— definitely almost reached the weight limits! Pretty sure I can even sleep on the flight tonight. Looking forward to seeing what Qatar airlines is like.  Plane leaves in 3.5 hours. Deep breath…

 It’s July 12th on a Wednesday afternoon. This week is remote orientation with my organization, Seed Global Health. All of the Seed Educators - as we are called - are in it together. I have one more day tomorrow, and depart from Portland at almost midnight on Thursday. My good friends Sharon and Duwayne have been instrumental in easing my way through this, and I am grateful for that. It’s a 28 hour flight altogether with two connections. Uganda is 9 hours ahead of Portland. My final pack is today and tomorrow, and it’s really almost finished.  Today I got to play with the band one last time - Duwayne, Jerry, John and Larry, and missing was Darryl… what a blast that was playing music with these fine fellows! A good memory for sure.  Now on to creating more. I will post updates and photos while in Uganda. More to follow ❤️
